HEALTH

L.I.F.E. is involved in many areas of health care. We help provide pharmaceuticals, mobility equipment, and support for young mothers. We also bring in professionals to assist in specialized areas such as therapy, nursing, and education.

In 2020, we distributed 16 boxes of medicine to a local maternity hospital and various clinics that provide services for those who are homeless or unable to afford medical care. Most of these clinics focus on women and children. The medicine was well-received, as travel restrictions due to Covid have made access to necessary medicines extremely difficult.

In 2022, we distributed more medicine to two small clinics that focus on meeting the needs of the poor and undocumented workers in the country. These clinics provide healthcare at reduced rates or even free of charge. Half of the pharmaceuticals were given to a clinic in a village of 14,000 people. This clinic is in the center of town and takes care of births, vaccinations, and general care for the people. Many who come to this clinic can not afford healthcare costs and also lack the paperwork to participate in the government social services. The main doctor, Dr. Yacuub, has become a friend to L.I.F.E. and allowed for a former staff member to volunteer her services at this clinic. He received the pharmaceuticals with gratitude and also shared that they will be further distributed to four clinic outposts in the surrounding rural community.

WATER

We work in the areas of drip irrigation, wells, water catchment systems, and water filtration systems in order to provide clean, safe drinking water to communities

  • Drip irrigation, which emits small amounts of water close to the plant to best utilize this valuable resource. We have seen this most effectively used in the dry seasons, when food resources are in short supply.

  • Below, is an example of a water catchment system sponsored by L.I.F.E. in Somaliland.

  • In 2021, we completed two water catchments in Somaliland and six shallow wells. We are continuing to build more shallow wells and water catchments in 2022.
